Applause

I love receiving feedback from satisfied clients!

Here’s a selection of comments from authors, colleagues and clients with whom I’ve worked over the last few years.

Working with Louise was one of the most valuable parts of my publishing journey. She brought an excellent combination of professionalism, clarity and genuine care to every chapter of my book.

What stood out most was her ability to strengthen structure and flow while preserving my voice, which is a challenging balance that she managed with ease. Her guidance was thoughtful, her attention to detail exceptional and her commitment unwavering.

I’m deeply grateful for the impact she had on the final manuscript, and I recommend her wholeheartedly.

Thank you so much for your honest and thoughtful feedback. It was exactly what I needed. I will be reworking the manuscript based on your suggestions, and I look forward to sharing the revised version with you.

I had the pleasure of working with Louise on the 4th edition of Corporate Finance: A South African Perspective (Oxford University Press). Her editorial contribution was invaluable. Louise has an exceptional eye for detail and a deep understanding of academic writing standards. She consistently identified inconsistencies and oversights that would otherwise have gone unnoticed, significantly enhancing the overall quality of the publication. Her professionalism, responsiveness and meticulous approach made her an indispensable part of the editorial process. I highly recommend her services to any academic or author seeking excellence in editing.

I thought I had done a lot of work producing the first draft of my manuscript – until Louise Rapley took over as my professional editor. Louise was exactly what I needed at that stage: fearless in her critique, razor-sharp in her attention to detail, unflinching when it came to asking the tough questions. She doesn’t believe in short cuts, only in quality. She held me to strict deadlines, yet gave me the flexibility to get the work to where it needed to be.

I ended up working harder than ever before, driven by the sheer discipline and integrity of her approach. How do you disappoint someone who works like that? I rewrote, added, subtracted, revised, re-researched, re-read, and rechecked every fact. You name it – I did it. And through those months, I gained much deeper clarity about the framework and content of the book and where it was truly headed.

I’m incredibly grateful to have worked with Louise.

I have worked with Louise Rapley for many years in my capacity as managing editor for various publishing companies. Louise is always one of the first freelancers I contact when hiring authors and editors for my projects. And I’m always relieved when she’s available! Louise is a very talented writer and editor who delivers outstanding work every time. She is reliable and a consummate professional. She is simply lovely to work with and I always rest easy when she’s on my content development team. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Absolutely brilliant! You really are a Word Magician – you write so beautifully and succinctly. Manuscript evaluation is definitely one of your fortes; one gets a solid sense of what is needed, but it’s delivered with respect, gentleness and awareness (and a dash of humour). Well done; this is truly so helpful.

[Louise’s] editing skills are outstanding: she works quickly yet carefully, is thorough and meticulous in her corrections, and can identify an error from a chapter away. […] However, as spectacular as these ‘usual’ copy editor abilities are, what impressed me the most about Louise is her conceptual and analytical acuity. She did not engage with the material only at the level of grammar, spelling, sentence construction, clarification and so forth, valuable as these are. She was able to grasp complex theories and debates, in a discipline with which she was unfamiliar, in a way that permitted her to point out logical inconsistencies, weak argumentation and unconvincing evidence. This allowed the authors to see how the ‘ordinary’ person or student would receive the content, and thus to make the necessary revisions to facilitate the reader’s understanding. The book is, as a result, so much the better for her insight and perspicacity.

I feel immensely grateful and privileged to have had Word Magician Louise Rapley as the editor of my book, Canvases of a Mubarak Life. Louise ran an incredibly enlightening, rigorous, pleasingly intimidating and thoroughly professional process during the manuscript evaluation, editing and proofreading stages. Her work is superb and I highly recommend her!

We were extremely impressed by your attention to detail and clarity in guiding us on style and content. One of the most challenging things in creating content is setting it out [in a way that] allows the reader to follow the story and understand the message. We have implemented all the changes you recommended, including several typographical issues missed by two edits in our previous review.

You were every bit the professional editor – guiding, coaxing and clarifying. I know Home Scar is better for having had you work with me on it.
